The researchers and scholars have analyzed the bird nest and concluded, in addition to rich protein value, contains 18 kinds of amino acids, rich in epidermal growth factor (EGF), the most valuable ingredient is the Sialic Acid (SA).
Sialic Acid is also academically known as the bird's nest acid. It is the main biologically active ingredient found in bird’s nest. As one of the various neuraminic acids, it is widely found in animal tissues and microorganisms. It is the important component of cell membrane proteins. In fact, many other food contain Sialic Acid, but in very small amount, whilst bird’s nest could contain up to 10% of Sialic Acid, hence scientists named it as bird’s nest acid.
Since Sialic Acid is synthesized in the liver. In the early development of child, the brain develops rapidly, while the liver develops rather slowly. The Sialic Acid synthesized by the liver is below the immense quantity needed for brain development. Nutritionists suggested that for the health of child, female moderately consume bird’s nest during pre-pregnancy preparation, pregnancy stage, and breastfeeding stage to supplement Sialic Acid.
